Community Service Policy

Community Service Events

Community Service Events are sanctioned by Sebastian River High School Navy JROTC (SRHS NJROTC).  For Community Service Events, the Senior Naval Science Instructor (SNSI) and/or Naval Science Instructor (NSI) will be on-site with the cadets during the entire event providing supervision and direction.

Sanctioned Community Service Events are only available to nonprofit (501 c3) organizations and related tax-exempt organizations (501 c19, etc) .  Exceptions may be granted on a case-by-case basis depending upon the degree of alignment between NJROTC program purpose & goals and the community organization's purpose & goals.  SRHS NJROTC cadet availability for community service events is generally available to qualified organizations on a first-come, first-served basis.  Exceptions to first-come, first-served do exist for regular annual events in which SRHS NJROTC has a history of participated.  SRHS NJROTC will generally not withdraw from an event after a formal obligation is made in writing, but reserves the right to cancel due to extenuating circumstances, academic commitments, instructor discretion, or direction from higher authority (SRHS administration, SDIRC administration, or NJROTC Program Administration).

Individual Volunteer Opportunities

Individual Volunteer Opportunities are unsanctioned volunteer service opportunities offered to individual cadets at Sebastian River High School.  For Individual Volunteer Opportunities, the Senior Naval Science Instructor (SNSI) and/or Naval Science Instructor (NSI) will NOT be on-site.  Supervision is entirely dependent upon the sponsoring community organization.  SRHS NJROTC will make cadets aware of Individual Volunteer Opportunities and will assist the sponsoring community organization with creating a roster of volunteer cadet.  SRHS NJROTC will also collect and log volunteer hours confirmed by the sponsoring community organization.

Generally, SRHS NJROTC will only make cadets aware of Individual Volunteer Opportunities for nonprofit (501 c3) organizations and related tax-exempt organizations (501 c19, etc) .  Exceptions may be granted on a case-by-case basis depending upon the degree of alignment between NJROTC program purpose & goals and the community organization's purpose & goals.
