CDR Peter Bissonnette, USN (Ret)
Peter Bissonnette is a 1998 graduate of Sebastian River High School. After high school, he attended the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland in May 2002, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a commission as an Ensign in the United States Navy.
Upon graduation, he proceeded to flight training at Naval Air Station Pensacola followed by advanced flight training at Naval Station Norfolk in the E-2C Hawkeye, earning designation as a Naval Flight Officer in May 2004. In October 2004, Commander Bissonnette reported to the VAW-115 Liberty Bells aboard the USS KITTY HAWK at Yokosuka, Japan. He flew nearly 1000 hours and served as Personnel Officer, Material Control Officer, and later as Assistant Operations Officer. In November 2007, Commander Bissonnette reported to Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps at Jacksonville University (JU), Jacksonville, Florida and served as both Freshman Naval Science Instructor and Recruiting Officer. He earned a Master’s in Business Administration from JU, graduating in June 2010. Commander Bissonnette redesignated as a Human Resources Officer and reported to the Naval Postgraduate School at Monterey, California in September 2010, graduating in September 2012 with a Master of Science in Human Systems Integration. He took command of Military Entrance Processing Station Amarillo, Texas in October 2012, evaluating recruits from four states. In October 2014, Commander Bissonnette reported to the Navy Manpower Analysis Center, Millington, Tennessee as the Afloat Programs Production Officer, tasked with determining manpower requirements for the Navy’s Afloat and Expeditionary units. He reported to the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute at Patrick AFB, FL as the Chief of Staff in June 2017, managing personnel, resources, and operations for the DoD’s premier Equal Opportunity Institute. In August 2019, Commander Bissonnette reported to the United States Transportation Command at Scott AFB, IL, where he served as the Division Chief of Manpower, Strategy, and Data Analytics. On June 1, 2022, Commander Bissonnette retired from the Navy with 20 years of active duty service.
Commander Bissonnette’s military awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (3), Navy Commendation Medal (2), Navy Achievement Medal (2), Navy Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (2), Navy Overseas Service Ribbon (2) and various unit and service medals and ribbons.
